How Can We Find Genuine Hope In a Broken World?

Have you turned on the news or been on social media recently? Hate crimes, terrorist attacks, mass shootings, and other atrocities seem to fill our newsfeeds each and every day.

With so much going wrong in the world these days, it can be difficult to feel genuine hope. Well, we’re here to tell you that hope is possible – but it can’t depend on things that are bound to fail. No matter how much we wish for it, we can’t count on the world to come together and put an end to hatred, poverty, and violence.

The only thing we can do is put our faith in God. God is the only one who won’t let us down.

You may object to us saying that. You may say that if God cares about us, why doesn’t He solve all the problems in the world? The truth is, God does have the plan to destroy evil, hatred, and violence. After all, He is a just God, which means he can’t ignore wrongdoing.

The problem is, God’s plan will take place on His timeline, not ours. One day, though, as Revelations 21:4, New Living Translation, says, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”

It’s easy to see that God has already started delivering on this promise. His only son, Jesus, was sent into this world to start making things right.

Think about it this way: the ultimate consequence of wrongdoing is death, both spiritual and physical. Spiritual death, in particular, means disconnecting from a perfect God. Through his sacrificial death on the cross, Jesus helped bridge the gap between God and us. He paid the price for our wrongdoing and took away the brokenness.

Through His resurrection, Jesus taught us that lasting hope is possible. By rising from the dead, he proved that death held no sway over Him. He proved that he had the power to give humanity eternal life.

Yes, there is still a lot of trouble in this world. Even so, God wants to give us hope to face it. As 1 Peter 5:7, NLT, says, “Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.”

Do you believe that you have a connection to the all-powerful God who cares about you? If so, genuine and lasting hope is yet possible, both now and in eternity.
